Filtrete: Helping You Have A Fully Programmable Home

Remember the time when having everything in your house capable of being completely controlled from a computer or a phone was something seen in sci-fi movies or only imaginable for the most advanced mansions? Well, times have changed. We can all have sci-fi mansions! Or, at least sci-fi homes and apartments.

One step in that direction is to get the Filtrete Wi-Fi Fully Programmable Touch Screen Thermostat. With this thermostat, you can control the temperature of your home simply through an app on your phone or through your computer. This means you can save a lot of money by lowering your heating or AC while you are away, but adjust the settings to your ideal temperature on your commute home. If you forget to turn down the heat or A/C you can do it remotely. Finally, this gadget is perfect for adjusting your temperature while you are in bed already tucked in.

The set up process is a little bit of a pain for anyone who doesn’t know anything about electricity, but I think long as you are willing to work carefully, you can do it. To set it up you need to connect the normal R, W, Y, G wires, but it also needs the 24v C wire for power – a lot of thermostats do not have that one, but most furnaces do. Once you have the physical part of the set up done it gets much easier. You just have to activate the thermostat’s wi-fi, which can easily be done from your home computer. You should also download the app for your Android or iOS smartphone or device and check out the thermostat’s website, which are both very self explanatory. Now you are ready to adjust your home’s temperature from anywhere.

Of course, if you don’t have central heat at your home or apartment, you can’t use this thermostat, which is unfortunate for many of us New Yorkers. Overall, for the reasonable price of under $100, and the minor hassle of setting it up, the Filtrete Wi-Fi Fully Programmable Touch Screen Thermostat is a fun gadget for the home that might save you money in the long run. The screen itself is easy-to-read and use, even if the surrounding casing isn’t exactly sexy or sleek, and the PC controls aren’t perfect. Home automation doesn’t have to be expensive, difficult, or confined to mansions!
