Sleep Soundly With Brookstone’s Pure-Ion Bedroom Air Cleaner
Start the year of 2015 off right- and healthier than ever. Whatever your resolutions may have been, sleeping soundly is probably important to achieving them- getting enough rest helps control weight, inspire artistic endeavors, and is critical to good overall mental and physical health. And one of the worst problems in your bedroom might be as simple to fix as improving your air quality.
One thing we’re definitely tired of is having to deal with two separate machines for humidification and air purification. New York City- and just about any- apartments can get really dry in the winter, and that’s bad for nasal passages. Plus, if you have any allergies or asthma, you need an air purifier running constantly to help deal with dander, dust, and other pollutants. The Brookstone Pure-Ion Bedroom Air Purifier and Humidifier combines both machines, handling both issues, and isn’t too large or loud, plus it offers dual reservoirs for long-term operation without nightly refills.
Like some other air cleaners that we’ve seen, the Brookstone Pure-Ion includes a stainless-steel filter that washes easily in the dishwasher, plus an indicator to let you know when it needs attention. Controls are simple, and allow you to select the desired mode- humidifier, cleaner, or both simultaneously. If you want to let it run non-stop, you can, but there’s also a timer you can set to have ti working for two to twelve hours. Solid CADR ratings- the official standard- are 109 smoke, 137 for dust, and 147 for pollen. It’s not built for a living room, but tested in a normal bedroom and could work fine in an office as well. On a low setting, it’s barely audible for the most part- except for an occasional pop or crackle due to the filters. On higher settings, you will notice it, but the Pure-Ion wasn’t louder than comparable machines, much less two different appliances running at the same time.
The Brookstone Pure-Ion Bedroom Air Purifier and Humidifier isn’t the best-looking model we’ve seen- the recent Coway pair were cute, and the Winix U300 offers extra filtration stages for odor protection and true HEPA purification. But we’ve been happy with reduced static and mold, the compact, dual-purpose machine and the large 2.6 gallon tank. Like with the Brookstone Pocket Projector Pro, it’s surprisingly solid and well-designed, and only slightly too expensively priced- available now, online and in stores for around $350.
