Cat Control: SureFeed’s Microchip Pet Feeder
If you don’t have pets- or if you have only one- then today’s product is not built so much with your household in mind. To be honest, if you have kids you may wish you could microchip them and help solve some of the same issues, restricting their diet and ensuring that no one steals food. But this is a solution to a specific set of problems, built for anyone who has multiple pets who may steal food from one another, or for pets with special diets.
The SureFeed Microchip Pet Feeder is a nifty answer to a question that has probably bugged cat and dog owners worldwide- how can i prevent Fritz (in our case) from eating food for Heddy, and vice versa. It’s compatible with all ID microchips worldwide, but if one or more of your pets aren’t chipped, you can also use a SureFlap RFID collar tags. And it works perfectly well with wet or dry food too. Setup is pretty simple- just get one cat a time to the bowl- and even if your pet’s tag has migrated or moved a bit, the sensor is still strong enough to read it and respond quickly. There are some training steps that help get them used to the movement and system, with the lid/cover in various states, to help teach them how it works. Some cats will get through them quickly, others might take a bit.
The SureFeed looks like something out of a science fiction film, and initially our cats seemed a little skeptical of eating out of this space-age contraption. The bowls are plastic too, rather than glass or ceramic, but are easy to clean. Batteries are not included; you’ll need four C cells which should last about six months (and help add some weight to keep it steady too). Once everyone is trained, we liked that you can adjust the delay before the lid closes, to help prevent really fast snatches or a lid closing and confusing, say, a cat who stops snacking for a moment.
In case you’ve got a whole lot of different pets, the unit can remember up to 32 of them (though there’s not really space to feed them all). And a sealed bowl has some additional benefits, like keeping flies away and helping keep food fresh. There are additional accessories you can pick up separately, like colored bowls and mats as well. Available for $139.99 online and in stores, the SureFeed Microchip Pet Feeder is a perfect way to help address a thorny problem in any multi-pet family.
